| RJ operates regular direct flights to Sulaymaniah |
|
Royal Jordanian will start to operate bi-weekly direct flights to Sulaymaniah, northern Iraq, as of June 5, 2006, in addition to the regular flights the airline conducts to Baghdad, Basra and Irbil.
The company's decision to launch the new destination in Iraq was taken due to the growing demand for travel between Jordan and Iraq. Opening the new route to Sulaymaniah, which will service businessmen's travel and incoming workforce to Iraq, increased RJ's operations between the two countries to 25 weekly flights, 16 of which are operated to Baghdad, 3 to Basra and 4 to Irbil, besides the twice weekly flights to Sulaymaniah.
The airline will operate its flights to Sulaymaniah on Mondays and Fridays, using the Bombardier Q400 that has a 70-seat capacity. The flight between Sulaymaniah and Amman lasts around two hours.
Flight reservations and ticket purchasing will be handled by Al Nawras company, the general sales agent in Sulaymaniah authorized by the airline. Royal Jordanian expects to boost its flights gradually on this sector, expecting an increase in traffic.
Recently RJ operated four chartered flights from Amman to Sulaymaniah to accommodate the incoming Egyptian workforce to Iraq via Jordan, in an effort to help rebuild Iraq. |
