RJ has been the proud recipient of both industry and customer satisfaction awards. This affirmation of our achievements has come from the air travel, customer service, tourism, web and business sectors. We are honored to be recognized by each of these awards, and strive to continue to uphold the standards that helped us achieve them.
Air Transport World (ATW), a leading monthly magazine covering the global airline industry, announced RJ as one of the 2007 ATW Airline Industry Achievement Award winners. These awards have been handed out annually since 1974. The magazine selected Royal Jordanian as the winner of the Phoenix Award, presented to airlines that have gone through a major transformation. ATW editors awarded us this prize in light of our past few years of success, after years of losses. They recognized the change in our business model to focus on traffic within our home market, returning us to profitability while nearly doubling in size. It is also recognized we were the first Arab carrier to join any of the global airline alliances with our membership in oneworld.
Air Finance Journal gave us the annual award for the most distinguished and financially efficient airline worldwide. The report included extensive analysis of the reasons RJ won the award, described our recent achievements as a polestar to all observers of the air transport industry, and pointed out we had doubled in size between 2001 and the end of 2007.
We became the first Arab or Middle Eastern airline to be awarded the Airline Strategy Award, in the technology category, by Airline Business magazine. We were nominated in recognition of our major overall transformation from an unprofitable carrier to a lucrative commercial enterprise, through the deployment of modern technology solutions. The judging panel recognized our achievements after an exhaustive assessment of international airlines.
