Royal Jordanian added Verona to its network through its codeshare agreement with Meridiana Fly

Dec

Royal Jordanian Airlines— a member of oneworld airline alliance — and the Italian Airline Meridiana fly, will add some points to the route network of both carriers. Under the agreement, Royal Jordanian passengers will be able to travel through Rome to Verona, Italy, on Meridiana fly flights featuring Royal Jordanian flight numbers. In return, Meridiana fly will be able to sell tickets marketing RJ flights between Milan and Amman, and Rome and Amman under the free sell codeshare agreement; the flights feature Meridiana fly flight numbers.

Royal Jordanian President/CEO Hussein Dabbas said that the new partnership will boost RJ route network and open more access across Italy, attracting both business and leisure passengers, which corresponds to RJ’s growing ambition worldwide and is an important step in the direction of the service goals the airline has set.

Alessandro Notari, commercial director of Meridiana Fly-Air Italy Group said: "This is a very important deal for Meridiana Fly Group, adding to our sales portfolio another destination in the Middle East region which offers many chances for development of both tourist and business passengers’ traffic. More specifically, our northern Italy customers will be able to reach Jordan with Royal Jordanian departing directly from Milan or Rome."

Meridiana was founded in 1963 as an air-taxi and charter operator to promote tourism to Sardinia. It began operating scheduled services in 1964 from Olbia, and the name Meridiana was in 1991.

In 2010, Meridiana and Eurofly merged to create Italy's second biggest airline, Meridiana fly. The airline has a fleet of 35 aircrafts serving a total of 7 intercontinental destinations, 16 international destinations (Europe and surrounding Countries) and 18 domestic ones.

Royal Jordanian which started operating to Rome in 1965 and to Milan in 1996, is now operating 6 weekly flight to Rome and 3 weekly flights to Milan. The airline currently has marketing alliances, through code sharing, with several international airlines: American Airlines, British Airways, US Airways, Iberia, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Siberia airlines (S7), Tarom, Gulf Air, Syrian Airlines, Malaysia Airways, airberlin and Meridiana fly.
