Royal Jordanian diverts flight to Istanbul to save passenger’s life

Nov - Istanbul

The captain of the Airbus A340, with 257 passengers on board, took the decision to land at the nearest airport after he was told that a passenger was suffering from heart attack symptoms and needed urgent help, according to an airline press release.

The flight landed at Istanbul Ataturk Airport and the passenger, a Jordanian, was transported to the closest hospital where he was given first aid.

The flight to Chicago resumed after a delay of one hour at Istanbul airport.

Royal Jordanian stressed that it is keen to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers, which is a priority for the airline despite the high cost incurred in any emergency landing due to the additional fuel consumption and the airport landing and take-off fees.

The 75 years old Jordanian passenger is in good health now and is expected to leave the hospital soon.
