Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Pacific added to oneworld’s Global Explorer

Nov - Monday

The addition of these three carriers’ routes, with effect from tomorrow (Tuesday, 1 December), will bring more than 15 new destinations, two key Asian hubs – in Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore – and dozens more routes on board Global Explorer.

This means Global Explorer now features some 230 destinations across Asia – and around 1,150 worldwide, in more than 150 countries.

Global Explorer is one of the most popular round-the-world fares available globally.  It offers simple, flexible, and great value travel around-the-world.  Prices are based on the cabin class chosen and the total distance travelled.  Travellers have up to one year to complete their journey.

It already covers all routes offered by oneworld’s member airlines – airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, TAM Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, Russia’s S7 and SriLankan Airlines, plus some 30 affiliated carriers, including Austria’s Niki, South Africa’s Comair, Denmark’s SUN-AIR, LAN Argentina, LAN Colombia, LAN Ecuador, LAN Peru and QantasLink.

In addition, it also features flights by a number of airlines that are not part of the global alliance, including Aer Lingus, Alaska Airlines and its Horizon Airlines sister, Bangkok Airways, Fiji Airways, Meridiana fly and WestJet.  Flights carrying the Qantas code but operated by Air Tahiti Nui and Jetstar were also already included – and now also those operated by Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Pacific, further expanding the reach covered by this fare.

Jetstar Asia is based in Singapore.   It operates some 26 routes, serving around 13 countries and 25 cities across the Asia-Pacific region.  Jetstar Japan flies 19 domestic Japanese and international routes, from Tokyo (Narita), Osaka (Kansai) and Nagoya (Chubu), while Jetstar Pacific operates 32 domestic and international routes to 16 destinations in Vietnam, mainly from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

They add 13 destinations in Vietnam to Global Explorer – Buon Ma Thuot, Chua Lai, Da Lat, Hai Phong, Pleiku. Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Nha Trang, Hue, Phu Quoc, Tou Hoa, Qhi Nhon and Dong Hoi – plus Indonesia’s Pekanbaru and Palembang, along with China’s Shantou.

oneworld Vice-President Commercial Stephen Usery said: “We are delighted to extend the reach offered by Global Explorer still further with the addition of Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Pacific, alongside their Australia and New Zealand-based Jetstar sister, which has participated in Global Explorer for some time.  Their addition brings on board attractive networks in some of the regions most popular with round-the-world travellers, making Global Explorer an even more appealing option.”

Jetstar Group Executive Manager for Network and Partnerships Alan McIntyre said: “This partnership with oneworld’s Global Explorer further symbolizes our commitment to all customers, providing yet another platform for them to tap into Jetstar’s wide network of destinations.

“Through this collaboration, we are effectively introducing to passengers across the globe the wonders of South East Asia and North Asia destinations offered by the network of Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Pacific,” Mr McIntyre added.

Global Explorer is one of two round-the-world fares offered by oneworld.  The alliance’s other round-the-world fare is oneworld Explorer.  This includes travel on the alliance’s existing member airlines and affiliates only.  Uniquely, prices are based on the number of continents visited, rather than on the distance flown.

oneworld offers the most extensive ranges of alliance fares.   For those who don’t want to fly all around the world, these include Circle fares for traveling through several continents without actually circumnavigating the globe and Visit passes for each continent and various specific regions.
