Larnaca, a fantastic travel destination

Larnaca, the city of beaches and palm trees, features a host of unique historical, archaeological and religious spots.

Church of Saint Lazarus: Built in the late 9th century, the Church of Saint Lazarus is a Byzantine stone church located in the town center. It houses an ornate gold-plated iconostasis as well as the Tomb of Saint Lazarus. Stop by the Byzantine Museum to view ancient religious relics and icons just across the courtyard from the church.

Hala Sultan Tekke (Mosque of Umm Haram): Take a peaceful trip through Islamic history at the Hala Sultan Tekke, an important mosque honoring the prophet Muhammad’s wet-nurse, Umm Haram. Set on the tranquil shores of the Larnaca Salt Lake, the Muslim shrine was constructed by the Ottomans in 1816 around the tomb of Umm Haram. You can almost feel history beneath your feet!

Larnaca Medieval Castle (Larnaca Fort): Situated on the edge of Larnaca’s southern coast, the Larnaca Fort was built in 1625 as the Ottoman's main line of defense for the city. Although it was later used as an artillery station and prison, today it is home to a small medieval museum showcasing a collection of medieval pottery, weapons and utensils as well as Early Christian, Byzantine and Post Byzantine artefacts and paintings. Take in the spectacular views overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
